Pride of Worship

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

“Do not become proud merely because you worship often,
for consider what happened to Iblees (shaytaan) after he spent a great deal of time worshiping.”

Humility

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

"Humility is part of noble character and
arrogance is the habit of villains.
Humility inherits love and contentment inherits comfort.”

“The highest of people in status are those
who do not see their status,
and the greatest of them in grace are those
who do not see their grace.”

Imam Shafi’i (Rahmatullahi ‘Alaih)

Companions

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

“You should look for sincere companions, for you will be happy with them. They will be a source of pleasure at times of ease and a support at times of calamity.

Think positively of your brother until he does something that justifies your keeping away from him, and keep away from your enemy, and beware of your friend except those who are trustworthy, and there is no one who is trustworthy except one who fears Allah.

Do not keep company with an evildoer lest you be influenced by his evil, and do not tell him your secrets. Consult those who fear Allah about your affairs.”

~ Hazrat Umar (Radhiyallahu ‘Anhu)

Reform of the Ummah

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

“The last generations of this Ummah can only be reformed by that which reformed its first generations. What was not part of the religion then cannot become part of the religion now.”

Humanity

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

“Humanity is not the physical form of man. It is not the name for flesh, bones and skin.

Humanity is the name given to the attributes, character and deeds through which Allah Ta’ala’s Pleasure is attained.”

Hazrat Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (Rahmatullahi ‘alayh)

Advice for Students of Deen

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

“A pen is worthy of great respect. Allah Ta’ala has taken a Qasam in the Qur’aan on the pen. Everything in the Lowh-e-Mahfooz is recorded with a pen. How much does man not benefit from a pen in his day to day life? Then should we not also be showing some form of respect to the pen?

Then we have a book. How much should we not be respecting the book? Always hold your books in your right hand. Show respect to your pens and your books. It must not be that you handle your books and pens carelessly. This is that aadmiyyat (humanity) which you all have left home and come here to learn.”

[Hazrat Maulana Maseehullah (Rahmatullahi ‘alayh)]

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

This moment will pass

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

Sultan Mahmood Ghaznawi gave a ring to his servant Ayaaz and said:

“Engrave such wording on it that if I see it when I am happy, it will make me sad; and if I am sad, it will make me happy.”

Ayaaz engraved:

“THIS MOMENT WILL SOON PASS.”

(moment of happiness / moment of sadness)

Seek your heart in three places

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

"Seek your heart in three places: Where the Qur’aan is recited; in the gathering of remembrance of Allah and in times of seclusion.

If you don’t find it in these places, then ask Allah to bless you with a heart; for you have no heart!

~ Ibn Al-Qayyim (Rahmatullahi ‘alayh)

Effect of Sins

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

"Sins leave ugly, despicable and harmful effects to the heart and body, in this world and the next.

...From them is that one is prevented from knowledge, as knowledge is a light that Allah Ta’ala places in the heart, and sins extinguish this light."

Ibn Al-Qayyim (Rahmatullahi 'alayh)

Polishing the Heart

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

"The heart is tarnished by two things: heedlessness and sin.
It is polished by two things: Remembrance (of Allah Ta'ala) and asking forgiveness (Istighfaar)."
