Three Deeds
Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
“There
are three deeds through which one gains complete Fanaa (annihilation of his
desires) and proximity to Allah Ta‘ala:
1.)
Ittibaa‘e Sunnat: Following the complete Sunnah of
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) in all facets of one’s life.
2.)
Serving people, together with tolerating their
harm.
3.)
Respecting the symbols of Deen.”

Faithfulness in Marriage
Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Once
a group of Muslims were on their travels propagating Islam in
Edinburgh. The Imam was leading the prayer [in a public place]. After
completing it, he was met by a few girls. One of the girls asked, "Do
you know English?"
The
young man [who was leading the prayer] said, "I do."
She
said, "What is this that you have done?"
The
young man replied, "We have performed worship."
The
girl said, "But today isn’t Sunday."
The
young man said, "We do this five times a day."
The young
lady expressed, "That’s a lot."
The
young man explained that if the blessings of Allah Ta'ala are kept in view,
this is very little. And this is that action which brings about the spring
of tranquility. This isn’t hardship, this is felicity.
Then
the girl extended her hand to bid farewell and the young man said,
"Forgive me for my hand cannot touch you."
She
asked: “Why?”
He
said, "This is my wife’s trust".
The
girl collapsed to the ground. With tears in her eyes, she said, "How
blessed is that wife who has such a husband. O that the men in Europe
would be like this!"

When the world comes between you...
Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Ahmad
Ibn Ammaar related:
A GROUP OF STUDENTS once set out with their
teacher to attend a Janazah Salaah. As they proceeded, they passed by some dogs
that were playing together. The teacher drew the students’ attention to the
dogs and said: “Observe how happily these dogs are playing together.”
After the Janazah, they again passed by the
same dogs. This time, the dogs were standing around a carcass and were barking
at each other. They began to bite off and snatch morsels of meat from the
carcass. Soon, they were growling, snarling and fighting with each other over
the meat.
By way of lesson and caution, the teacher then
said to his students: “My students, you have seen these animals. Take lesson. You
too will remain the best of friends so long as worldly riches do not come
between you. When the world comes between you, you will then become hostile with
each other, oppose each other, and fight like dogs over a carcass!”

Prepare for It
Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
“A man has a Lord whom he will meet, and a
home in which he will dwell, so he must please his Lord before meeting Him and
prepare his home before moving into it.”
Ibn Al-Qayyim (Rahmatullahi ‘alayh)
